PHPauction version 2.51 is the recommended auction script. It includes thumbnails on listing pages, a smooth front page layout, and integration of PayPal into seller emails.  It is a fork based on PHPauction 2.5 GPL but has extensive improvements over the original version.

PHPauction version 3.3 is a very solid script, provided pro gratis by phpauction.net for your use. It is the last release of a GPL PHPauction script and is both solid and reliable.

PHPauction version 2.1 is a bugfest, and should only be considered by those who wish to use an ultra-simple auction script that requires quite a bit of hands-on involvement and patching. On the upside, the modular design lends itself well to modification and experimentation/study.
